See our website. Contact the Edmonton School of Ballet if you have a son or daughter interested in the Professional Dance Program at Vimy Ridge Academy.

Our Dance program is offered in partnership with the Edmonton School of Ballet Society in a beautiful, architecturally designed area located on Vimy Ridge Academy's second and third floors. There are eight large studios, all composed of sprung wood floors covered with dance floor matting, and equipped with barres and mirrors. All dance instructors are highly qualified in their specific area of expertise. Our students get exceptional dance instruction with amazing results.

Students attend academic classes during part of the day, and work with high level dance instructors for the remainder of the day. This combination results in a balanced approach to dance instruction and academic success.   High School students can achieve up to 20 credits per year in dance subjects.

  • Classical Program
Discover the classics of dance with an emphasis on Classical Ballet, Pointe, Pas de Deux and Classical Repertoire with additional training in modern and jazz.
  • Contemporary Program
At the Intermediate level, students may choose to have a stronger emphasis on Modern and Jazz, but will maintain consistent Ballet training.
  • Teacher Training Program
A three to four year course, the teacher training program covers Cechetti Syllabi and Pedagogy, Classes for Boys, Pointe Work, Creative Dance for Children, Music Class Preparations, Choreography, Dance History, Anatomy, Theory, Child Psychology, Parent Communication and School Administration. Students can prepare for the teacher training program offered to post-secondary students by the Edmonton School of Ballet Society.

Our affiliations with the Edmonton School of Ballet Society, Edmonton Festival Ballet and the Edmonton Contemporary Dancers allow us to feature our students in several local and provincial performances.

Participation in our dance program provides students with increased opportunity to gain entry into international ballet companies. Many dancers from the Edmonton School of Ballet Society have gone on to the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, the National Ballet, jazz and modern companies worldwide.

Parent Testimonial- Feb 2006
Dear Edm. School of Ballet,
In  Junior High, after attending a full day of school, our daughter would rush home, do some home work and then travel across town to a dance studio for evening dance classes. As a result she was always short of time, often too tired at night to study or socialize with school friends.  One major advantage of the Vimy Ridge/ Edmonton School of Ballet programs  is that they are integrated under one roof, and for the most part take place during regular school hours.  Rather than travel across town for evening dance classes, after a full day of school,   our daughter  attends her academic classes in the morning and early afternoon in a traditional high school setting and in the afternoon goes upstairs to the spacious and well equipped dance studios for her dance technique classes. Because she attended academic classes with students who were also in the dance program, she has developed many close friendships. As well a  tremendous amount of travel time was saved by not having to travel to two locations - one for academics and one for dance training. As a result, she was able to participate in the extracurricular activities such as student council and the performing company programs through the Edmonton Festival Ballet and the Edmonton Contemporary Dancers.  I feel she has had the advantage of experiencing high school life to its fullest socially , academically and artistically. .  Our daughter's decision to choose the ESB/Vimy program was an excellent one for her both academically and artistically.  The teachers in all programs work together to provide a more holistic academic and artistic experience for the students. The well qualified faculty recognizes that students who aspire to be dancers or athletes are disciplined and focused. Vimy Ridge has developed a program that works to create an environment that supports their students' potential both in academics and in dance. The dance students learn from the sports and Canadian studies students and these students in turn gain an understanding and appreciation for  the arts and each others interests.
